With the increase in people's income and leisure time, recreational activities such as leisure and recreation, tourism, sports and fitness, entertainment, and cultural dissemination are flourishing. Leisure sports focus on satisfying participants' physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Engaging in leisure sports not only provides people with the energy needed for physical and psychological health but also enriches personal life, enhances the essence of life, and contributes to overall happiness and health.
Since its establishment in 2005 (ROC 94), the department has grown for over a decade. With the meticulous planning and diligent management of five department chairs, combined with the efforts of faculty, students, and alumni support, the department has flourished. The number of classes increased from one class in the day program for the 2005 academic year to one class in the evening program for the sports health and leisure program by 2009. By 2010, the day program had expanded to two classes. In 2005 and 2011, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Department of Sports Health and Leisure and the Graduate Institute of Leisure and Health Business, respectively. In 2014, the department was restructured to become the Department of Leisure Studies, also offering a master's program in Leisure Business. Currently, the department primarily focuses on the fundamental theories and practical skills related to the leisure industry. The curriculum includes courses on "Leisure Sports," "Leisure Recreation," "Leisure Activities," "Leisure Health," "Leisure Behavior," and "Management and Administration," among others.
